Exness on iPhone and iPad — a handset for a week that does not line up (Jordan)
Where to get the iOS apps, and the days when a phone is the only screen in the room: the Friday close, the closed weekend, and a Monday open that arrives overnight.
Open Exness Account →The currency market keeps a Monday-to-Friday week. The working week here runs Sunday to Thursday, so the two never line up: Friday and Saturday are days off while the market first trades and then shuts, Sunday is a full working day with nothing quoted at all, and the week reopens in the small hours of Monday. A phone is what is actually in the room at each of those moments.

A market week and a local week that do not line up
Trading in currencies runs from the Monday open to the Friday close and stands still for the two days in between. In Jordan the days off are Friday and Saturday, so the overlap is partial and lopsided — one day off spent with a live market that is about to close, one day off with nothing moving, and then a working Sunday during which the market is still shut.
That produces two moments each week when a screen is wanted and a desk is not available. The first is Friday, when the week is being closed out and the only real question is whether a position travels into the weekend at all. The second is late on Sunday night into Monday, when the first prices of the new week arrive long after the working day has ended.
Neither moment is a matter of preference about devices. At those hours a handset is simply what is to hand, which is the argument for having it set up and signed in well before the Friday it is first needed.
What a position does while the market is shut
A position left open on Friday is not closed by the weekend; it stops moving. The figure showing on Friday evening is the same figure on Saturday, and it is not a result yet — it becomes one only when the market reopens and prices it again.
A market that has been closed can reopen away from where it stopped. Two days of news arrive as a single first print rather than tick by tick, which is precisely why the Friday decision — carry the position or close it — is a decision rather than a formality.
The two checks are therefore different jobs. Friday is about deciding; Monday is about seeing what the decision cost or saved. Each takes under a minute on a phone, and the second one has usually already happened by the time any desk is switched on.
Not every instrument keeps the same week
The Monday-to-Friday week belongs to currency pairs, metals and indices. Cryptocurrency CFDs are quoted across seven days, which is why the correlation study published here leaves them out of a matrix built on daily closes: there is no shared closing bar to compare them against.
On a phone that changes what a weekend actually looks like. A watch list holding only currency pairs has nothing to show between Friday and Monday; add a crypto CFD and the screen keeps moving straight through both days off, at hours when nothing else does.
Sorting the watch list along that line takes two minutes and makes the weekend view honest — the instruments frozen at Friday’s price in one group, the ones that are not in another. The volatility readings are worth a glance before a weekend for the same reason: they say how far an instrument has been travelling per day, which is the size of the gap being carried.

Putting the phone where the week needs it
- Install and sign in while a desk is still available, not on the Friday the app is first wanted.
- Confirm which account is showing — a demo and a live account look alike on a small screen.
- Split the watch list by week: the instruments that stop on Friday in one group, the seven-day ones in another.
- Make the Friday check a habit — what is open, and whether it should still be open on Monday.
- Take the first look of the new week early on Monday: the reopening happened overnight and the position has already been repriced.
The market week and the local week never coincide; the phone is what covers the offset.
The week as it lands locally
| Day | Locally | Currency market | What a phone is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Working day | Shut until late in the night | Nothing to watch — the week is planned, not traded |
| Monday | Working day | Open; the first prices arrived overnight | The reopening check, before anything else |
| Tuesday to Thursday | Working days | Trading | Position checks between other commitments |
| Friday | Day off | Trading, then the weekly close | The carry-or-close decision |
| Saturday | Day off | Shut | Only the seven-day instruments move |
