Dozens of controls sit on the screen and a single position passes through four of them — which panels take part in the trade, and whose work the rest of the window is there for.
Open Exness Account →A banking application is built around three or four actions, so every control on its screen is one that eventually gets pressed. MetaTrader 5 is not built that way. One workspace is shipped to several kinds of user at once, and each of their toolsets is on the screen at the same time, whether or not the person in front of it does that kind of work. Opening a position and closing it again passes through four places: the symbol list, the chart of the symbol being traded, the order ticket, and the row the open position occupies until it is closed. The rest of the menus is inventory for other jobs, and nothing about the trade changes if they are never opened.

What is on the screen, and what takes part
- In the trade: Market Watch, the symbol list, with a price beside each name
- In the trade: the chart of the symbol being acted on
- In the trade: the order ticket, where the volume and the order type are set, with optional Stop Loss and Take Profit
- In the trade: the Trade tab of the Toolbox, where the position sits from the fill until it is closed
- Not in the trade: the Navigator panel and everything filed under it
- Not in the trade: the Strategy Tester, which runs a rule set over prices that have already happened
- Not in the trade: MetaEditor, a separate program for people who build tools rather than operate them
- Not in the trade: the Exposure, History, Calendar, News, Mailbox and Journal tabs, which are records and reference rather than controls
- Not in the trade: the toolbars along the top, which are shortcuts to menu items reachable anyway
- The length of the menu describes the range of jobs the program was written for, not how much of it one person operates

A banking application can do a short list of things — show a balance, move money, pay someone — and its screen is designed backwards from that list. Nothing sits on it that a normal user will never touch, which is why nobody calls such an app complicated.
A trading terminal is designed the other way round. One build reaches everybody, and the people who receive it do different work: some send two orders a month, some watch six charts all day, some spend their time on records and rules. Every one of those toolsets has to be present in the same window, because there is only one window to put them in.
The impression of complexity therefore comes from a design decision rather than from the operation. A menu is long because the audience of the program is wide, and that says nothing about how many items in it any one person has to reach.
What a single position actually touches
Take the smallest complete operation there is: open a position, and later close it. Four places are involved, and they are the same four every time.
The instrument is picked from the list on the left. Its chart is what the decision is read from. The order ticket is where the volume and the order type are entered, together with the optional Stop Loss and Take Profit levels. From the fill onwards the position occupies one row on the Trade tab at the bottom of the window, and that row is also what closes it.
That is the whole path. None of it requires the Navigator, the Tester, the editor or any of the other tabs to be open, and hiding those panels leaves the order and the position exactly as they were.
Many functions against many needed
The useful question in front of a long feature list is not how long it is, but how much of it belongs to the way one particular person works. A shelf of tools that never gets opened is neither an advantage nor a problem; it is somebody else's half of the workspace, delivered in the same box.
The reading also corrects the opposite mistake, which is assuming that a control matters because it is prominent. Where an item sits in a menu reflects how the program was organised, not how often the thing behind it is needed.
The practical consequence is that the window can be cut down. Panels close, toolbars hide, and the four places a position passes through stay where they were. A trader who never opens the other tabs is not using the platform incorrectly, and a trader who lives in them is not using a different platform.
The one operation, panel by panel
- Pick the instrument in Market Watch; its price appears beside the name.
- Open the chart for that instrument and read the price there.
- Open the order ticket, set the volume and the order type, and add Stop Loss and Take Profit if they are wanted.
- After the fill, find the position on the Trade tab of the Toolbox — one row, carrying its own figures.
- Close it from that same row when the trade is over.
Five moves through four panels. Every other item in the menus stays where it is and takes no part in this one.
